We’re thrilled to introduce author Jamal for our upcoming horror anthology, Of Dread, Decay, and Doom! Jamal has contributed the short story “Surrogate” to the anthology.

Jamal Hodge is an award-winning writer, filmmaker, and producer whose work dances between page and screen. His films and series include directing for Investigation Discovery’s Primal Instinct and PBS’s Southern Storytellers, while his producing credits include the Academy Award–nominated Armed Only With a Camera and the forthcoming theatrical animation film Pierre the Pigeon Hawk. As a literary artist, his poetry has earned Bram Stoker Award nominations, multiple Rhysling Award nominations, a Dwarf Stars Award win, and 3rd Place at the 2025 Elgin Awards. His forthcoming book, I’m Not a Good Person, I’m a New Yorker, continues his exploration of pain, identity, and modern ethics, while using darkness to show light. It will be released on July 7th, 2026, by Crystal Lake Publishing.
